With an intention to make Kolkata, Howrah and its suburbs clean and free from pollution and to uplift the Cattle –owners from the financial point of view, Project Office for WFP618 took upon itself the responsibility of initiating four Cattle Resettlement Projects- one each at Purba Kolkata, Howrah, Garden Reach and Ganganagar. Though, due to Government decision, three other Projects could not start functioning, Only the Project at Ganganagar in the district of North 24-Parganas, started in 1983.
